Zune sharing gets you credits? Why not Live Messenger?
October 25, 2006Hear about the rumor about the MS/Zune offering credits/referral bonuses?
… when you share a song via Wi-Fi using Zune’s three day/three play system AND the other party purchases the song later in the iZunes Music Store (IZMS), you get a credit that you can later trade in for music and media.
Great idea, but why not take advantage of a quicker and more established medium? How about they make Windows Live Messenger messenger do this? Or iChat /w iTunes?
I was excited when I heard about this because I always find new music from my friends/mix tapes. MSN has a great feature where you can see what people are listening to, so why not drive it home and let you sample it and buy it?
Tell me your business idea - I can help you tune it. Call me for a brainstorm session.

Live Messenger also has a music sharing thing (Music Mix).
Brandon | October 26, 2006Live Messenger also has a music sharing thing (Music Mix). I’ve only used it once, but I think I remember MSN trying to sell music to you while you are sharing it. Why not promote referrals there, as well?
Just tried it /w a friend but it didn't work.
BPAndrew | October 26, 2006Just tried it /w a friend but it didn’t work. If this DOES exist it should be way smoother than it is right now. I didn’t even know about that activity until you mentioned it.
How I see it working with Live Messenger is when you see a “what I’m listning too” link next to someones name, you should be able to click it and listen to it instantly… and if you like it, click the buy now button and get the whole thing.
That would be nice. The Music Mix does work,
Brandon | October 26, 2006That would be nice. The Music Mix does work, but has issues with firewalls. Each person can upload music to the other persons pc (at severely degraded quality), and both people share the master control over the music player. So if you pause the song, it pauses on the other persons computer, too. When you end the music mix, the uploaded music is deleted.
It’s pretty interesting … however, pointless…
